Genesis of marvels

Since its origins in 1907, SPENGLER has invented and revolutionized medical diagnosis with the principle goal of helping all health professionals to improve their accuracy and efficiency in their daily work.
New stethoscopes PULSE II, MAGISTER II and CARDIOPRESTIGE II  are the incarnations of this desire where, as usual, SPENGLERhas pushed the limits of medical diagnosis even on a device where any improvement seemed impossible.

It took many years for this new stethoscope collection to see the light of day.
The SPENGLER LAB, which houses our research and development department and other talented engineers, has enabled the combination of two extraordinary partnerships for this project.

• The Mechanics and Acoustics Laboratory is the largest laboratory in Europe dedicated to acoustics research and one of the most prestigious in the world. It is a CNRS headquarters and is equipped with cutting-edge technologies from which our research has benefited.
• The prestigious engineering school, CENTRALE Marseille, which trains talented engineers, also participated in this project by seconding an engineering student for several months to lead this project to success.

Reviewed from A to Z

Although we have been making stethoscopes for several decades, the Genesis of this project was based on the idea of reviewing all the factors influencing sound waves using state-of-the-art technology from the acoustics laboratory.
In fact, even within rooms that are totally insulated from external disturbances, we measured all the possible variants and their consequences on the acoustic restitution within the framework of a medical examination situated between 0 and 1400 hertz.

Examples of parts studied :

• Choice of materials for chest-pieces and headsets (Aluminium, zamak, steel, brass),
• Chest-piece weights and material positioning,
• Length and width of tubing,
• Curvature and width of headsets,
• Machining shape of the receivers.

Analysis of stethoscopes on the market :

This study also allowed us to measure all the stethoscopes on the market and to note that our first generation stethoscopes were among the best performing stethoscopes available. Our new stethoscopes have been redesigned, enhanced and improved to deliver outstanding performance with exceptional acoustics.
